You may notice the newsletter looks a bit different today.

StartOps has never had an official mission statement. But if I had to coin one, it’d be this:

Help people collide with opportunities they might have missed otherwise.

To date, the newsletter has been focused on colliding people with jobs.

But there are other valuable collisions, too — useful tools, expert knowledge, people to talk to and/or hire, etc.

So starting this week, I'm going to experiment with some different sections to highlight these other kinds of opportunities.*

As always, I’d love your feedback on what’s most useful!

With efficiency,

Charles

* The one thing I'm not planning to focus on is news or news analysis. For that, I suggest Matt Hertz' wonderful newsletter Sent Items, which I suspect most of you read already anyway :)

Blue Ocean

Today we’re dropping a new podcast: Blue Ocean by StartOps.

In each episode, I’ll talk to a founder or an operator about the problems faced by ecommerce operations leaders, and the tools and techniques they’re using to solve them.

In our inaugural episode, I sit down with Cedrik Hoffmann, the co-founder and CEO of Ameba.

We cover a lot of ground, including:

  • What buying a slot machine manufacturer and co-founding a brand aggregator taught him about supply chain.
  • Where supply chain variance comes from, and how to avoid it.
  • The pain of being a mid-market brand stuck between spreadsheets and a full-scale ERP.

Watch or listen to the show here:

You can learn about Ameba on their page on the StartOps Directory.

Meet an Operator

In this section, we’ll share an introduction to a vetted, high-impact operator who’s available to hire.

Meet Agla Fridjonsdottir!

Agla got her start at Icelandair reducing aircraft weights by optimizing food payloads.

Since then, she’s:

  • Built the supply chain team at Bouqs (in the notoriously difficult flowers category)
  • Reduced inventory processing times by 80% at Tradesy, reporting directly to the CEO
  • Overhauled the domestic transportation strategy at Vestiaire Collective, reducing annual shipping costs by >10%.

Today, she’s available to consult on ops projects big and small. Learn more about Agla here, including how to get in touch.
